Brief History of  Tellicherry Fort

Tellicherry Fort is located at Thalassery(Tellicherry) town in Kannur district of Kerala state in South India. To stronghold on the Malabar Coast, In 1708 British east India company built this fort. Hyder Ali was the ruler of Kingdom of Mysore. In 1781, he was unsuccessful in getting victory of Tellicherry Fort to control Malabar. His successor Tipu sultan was forced to give ownership of Malabar District to the British in 1792. Tellicherry Fort includes strong and massive walls, Secret tunnels to the sea and strong flanking bastions and intricately carved huge doors. It has an imposing structure. Right now Tellicherry Fort is a historical monument and preserved by Archaeological Survey of India.

How To reach?

By Air: the nearest airport is at Karipur, Kozhikode, about 93 km south.After that you have to come by road or by train.

By Rail: Thalassery railway station is main station in which almost all the train stop.

By Road: Kozhikode is 67 km far from Thalassery, from where it is accessible by road.

You can choose anyone option from above 3 to reach at Tellicherry Fort which is comfortable to you.
